I love this family, and not just because I'm related to Brandon and Jenny. Look how cute they all are! I love good looking families because they make my job so easy. And I can't get enough of the tiny little babies. Melt my heart! Brandon is basically my brother, so it made it extra fun to photograph his cute little family (love you guys!).

And last but not least teeny little Daxton! Ahh! He's so cute! I can't stand it!

Some Film

I love film. Really. Everything about it. Digital I feel sometimes makes me sloppier, because it's instant, and that makes it a lot easier, but with film you don't have the instant gratification. This makes me set up my shots better, rely more on what I know. I just love it. And the look of film cannot be replaced by digital. It's so authentic. Anyways, here was an assignment I had in my documentary photo class. We had to photograph 3 places that had history behind them:

The Peach Tree:

When I was younger my best friend Linsey and I had a tree right between both of our houses. It was a peach tree, though it hardly ever produced any fruit, and it was out meeting spot. The peach tree brings back some of my fondest memories. It was where all of our adventures began. Every phone call ended, "Meet ya at the peach tree!" There was also a name carved in the sidewalk. It was our tradition that we would step on the name every time we would meet or even walk past it. We were a little superstitious, and thought that if we didn't step on the name something bad would happen. I love this tree and all the memories tied to it.

The House That Burned Down:

All that's left from this house is the two chimney's and the toilet. I would always drive by this house, and it was always so creepy. So naturally I wanted to snap some photos of it. After a little digging I found that this house burned down in April of 2009 after a grease fire spread throughout the home. This house was built back in the 70's and was abandon by the owner after the fire. The total damage caused by this fire was $400,000. After that it became a major eye sore and safety hazard. They finally ended up tearing it down and now all that stands are the lonely remains.

Peppermint Place:

The Peppermint Place is an Alpine legend. This also hold a lot of childhood memories for me.

"Kencraft got its start in 1969 in the home of Ken and Marlene Matheson - their handmade panoramic Easter eggs and icing decorations were an instant hit with friends and neighbors throughout northern Utah. In 1974, Kencraft gained national recognition at a tradeshow in Chicago and this home based business quickly outgrew its capacity. With orders flooding in, Kencraft moved into a manufacturing facility in Alpine, Utah at the base of the majestic Wasatch Mountains where the company remains today.

In 1994 Kencraft, Inc. was purchased by a privately held company that added financial and management strength along with new ideas and products. This infusion of talent and capital spurred Kencraft into new markets including the expansion of manufacturing and sales into Europe, Mexico and Asia. Kencraft's parent company, Dynamic Confections, owns two other confectionery companies: Maxfield Candy Company and Dynamic Chocolates.

I used to save up my money and go there and at least once a week. Especially in the summer. My friends and I would ride our bikes get sugar galore. It since has moved from its original location, that was a sad day. It is definitely not the same as it used to be, but it is still fun to go back and reminisce.

Catey

I had another documentary photography assignment. We had to document a cause. I thought of Catey Warner Smith. Catey has been a good friend of mine since elementary school. She is also a very talented ballet dancer. She was involved in a car accident last year. It was her last semester at UVU, and she was to graduate with her BFA in dance. She was on her way to school and was hit by a man named Justin Hicken who was driving under the influence. This is her story:

"August 25, 2010 was the first day of school for my last semester before earning my BFA in Dance, Ballet. I was on my way to catch the bus but I got hit by a car while I was still on the sidewalk. I briefly saw a maroonish or reddish SUV heading towards me, next thing I knew, I was in the ambulance, or maybe I was still on the ground, I still don't remember. I remember my leggings, tights, leotard, sweater, and backpack. The scissors felt strange as they grazed my skin. The very first thing I remember thinking was, "That car totally hit me! I really got hit by a car." I was in shock and still can't believe what happened. I then gave the EMTs Jeremy and my mother's phone numbers because I wanted them with me. I also remember wiggling my fingers and toes and discovered that I wasn't paralyzed, I was totally relieved.

The man who hit me is my same age. He was under the influence of heroine. He drove his truck across two lanes of traffic driving somewhere around 40 mph and almost hit a car head on before he drove over the curb and plowed into me. Witnesses said that I flew over his car and landed 10 feet away under another car's bumper. Justin Hicken was the criminal who hit me. He was even in court for a different DUI the day before. He was only sentenced to three years of probation and a $1300 fine and the worst part is that he still has his license. I will never be as strong as I was before and I will likely never perform again." -Catey Smith Warner

Catey is such a strong, amazing person. She did not deserve this to happen to her. We need to raise awareness of the effects that driving under the influence can have on peoples lives. Infamous Ink

I had such a love for documentary photography. It has stolen my heart.

For our second assignment we were given one square mile. In that square mile we had to find a story to document. I choose AF, and in AF the Infamous Ink tattoo studio. I loved every minute of it! They were some of the nicest people I have ever met, and were so good to work with. Here are some of my favorite shots from a couple weeks of shooting there.

Ten Years Later...

In my documentary photo class we had a project to photograph people where they were when they found out about the terrorist attacks on September 11th. I have really loved this project. It was something totally different than I have ever done. I felt like I connected on a much deeper level with the people I photographed than ever before. Everyone has a story. Where they were, how they felt. It was neat to get to experience it with them. Here is the finished product...enjoy!

"It really kinda sucks." Zachary Muse told me, as I asked him about the terrorist attacks on September 11th. Zachary celebrated his first birthday on that fateful September day. Although he can't exactly remember the day itself, the aftermath has definitely made an impact. Since he's really never known anything else but our nation at war I asked him how it has affected him. He responded by saying he was surprised when they finally found Osama Bin Laden, and killed him. He was very happy his reign of terror had ended. I could tell he was intrigued by the idea that good really does prevail in the end.

"It was the morning of September 11th 2001; I entered the school bus to attend what I thought would be another day in the 8th grade at Mountain Ridge Junior High. I still remember the astonished look on my bus drivers face, as I stepped onto the bus and found a spot to sit. He knew something I didn't. He yelled behind him for silence, "This is a day in history", he shouted. "Be quiet and listen to the radio!". I listened, but didn't understand.As a young and naive 13 year old girl, I had little knowledge or comprehension of the meaning "terrorist attack". I knew something happened, but the severity hadn't quite sunk in. I was confused. I kept wondering why a plane would fly into a building? Was it an accident, I kept wondering? I didn't know that it was a deliberate attack against America, and I couldn't understand why anyone would do this. When I entered the school the news buzzed through the halls like wildfire. My first class was History, and my teacher took the entire class session explaining words like "terrorism" and "Osama bin Laden". It wasn't until after that class that I fully grasped the magnitude of the situation. The radio and television captured every bit of me that day and the next few days after that. I was consumed with sadness, and shattered expectations of a world that didn't seem as kind and wonderful as I once thought it was. I was hurting for the the families that had lost loved ones, and was noticing how much unification took place throughout not only our communities, but our entire nation. Things felt different, and I felt changed in a way. I was suddenly more concerned for our nations well being, and I upheld a stronger patriotism than I ever had before. It was a day that shaped our past, and created our future priorities.

As September 11th comes each year, I reflect back on that day at school. Every year that passes is another year of healing and betterment of our country. I am forever grateful for the sacrifices made that day, and for the blessing it is to live in America." -Jessica Van Oostendorp

"What stated out as just another day at the office turned out to be a day never to forget. Upon arriving at my office at Utah Valley University, I turned on the radio and booted up my computer, which is what I do each day. I was not paying attention to what was being broadcast on the radio. Then I heard what I thought to be a trailer for a Stephan Spielberg movie. It is then I started paying more attention to what was happening because I wanted to catch the title of the movie for future reference. It then became very clear to me that it in fact this was not a movie trailer but the real thing. A fellow worker had his TV on so I watched as the news media reported the details of what had happened. The entire office was in shock and a very subdued atmosphere was present for the entire day. No one felt like working. My wife called saying she was still watching TV. We discussed the fact this could not happening in the USA, but sadly it was." -Bernell Hofheins

The Joys Of Finals

This semester my classes have been incredibly hard, but I have absolutely LOVED them! For one of my finals I had to do a photo shoot for the cover of Vogue and a spread inside. Might be my favorite final ever. Here is the final result! Also a special thanks to a certain Toni Marea! She is always so sweet to help me whenever and this was no exception. She is such a beautiful girl I thought she'd be perfect for the job! Keep in mind it was FREEZING, and wearing a skirt and fish nets for half of it doesn't exactly keep you cozy. FINALLY pictures of Balti! I LOVE it here! I love that it is not in the fake bubble of Utah. There is real people, and it is gorgeous! I could spend the rest of my days here. I am going to be so sad when we leave:(

Yep there is forests everywhere! I LOVE IT! I would give up the mountains any day to have this beautiful scenery!

We haven't been to downtown Balti a lot, but we did make it to an Orioles game so far!

Drum Roll Please!

Alright friends....here is the news! 1. Moments photography will be temporarily moving to Baltimore, Maryland. Yes, it is true for 4 months. From April 29th, to around September 1st. I will however, travel back for weddings, so if you are getting hitched this summer and had your heart set on me to be there to capture the moment, I CAN!! I will also be coming back for my sister Alex's graduation for about a week (May 24th-May 29th), so I will be taking appointments then as well! I will be informing all of you when I will be coming back for weddings, so if you would like your family, senior, maternity, newborn, etc. pictures then, please let me know and I would be MORE than happy to take those for you!
2. Moments will be changing its name to..... Paislee Photography!

Moments was just too used in the photography world, so I wanted something a bit more unique and more me! This change will take some time. I am currently working on a new blog and a new website. With this change will come some price changes, nothing drastic, just more options for your photography packages. I hope to have all of this up and running and finished by the middle of May. If school was not in the picture I could get this done A LOT sooner!

Every year Platinum(the company Taylor works for) takes its employees on a cruise if they sell a certain number of systems. It was a blast! Oh Mexico...it was a blast! It was perfect 80 to 85 degree weather everyday, the food was delicious, and I was with the love of my life! What could be better?! I did forget my Nikon however, but I think the pics still turned out good! No, wedding pictures yet...but I think we will be getting them in the next week or two.

Taylor took most of the scenic pictures, didn't he do a great job! I just love you Taylor Baylor!

Ready for a sad sad tale?? Let me begin...my darling fiance Taylor and I were out dining at Cafe Rio last night, everything was tasty and deluxe until I noticed my purse was not by my side...we searched and searched...but alas no luck...it is gone. My favorite coach purse with my cute yellow wallet from forever 21 is gone. Not to mention my iphone, digital camera, drivers license, credit cards, car keys, etc. Someone STOLE it! Mean! They better have been starving and had to feed their children and that was there only means to do so...but if it was some punk who just wanted money...GRR!! Anyways! That's the story
